What Is SilverSneakers? Does Medicare cover this program?

SilverSneakers is a program that encourages older adults to engage in physical activities for optimal well-being. The goal is for these participants to advocate for and maintain a greater sense of their own health. SilverSneakers designs and sponsors senior activities to help empower them to engage with social interactions.

The program is available nationwide and membership provides access to any participating gym. Each participating gym location offers an advisor to help members get started. Participation with SilverSneakers gives participants access to sponsored health education seminars and other fitness-related events.

Medicare Coverage for SilverSneakers

SilverSneakers is not covered by Original Medicare Parts A and B because it is a basic fitness service. Medicare Advantage plans, aka Medicare Part C, may, however, provide coverage. Contact your health plan directly for coverage details or visit SilverSneakers.
