No, you are not required to submit your Medicare Initial Enrollment Questionnaire (IEQ) online.
Submitting your IEQ online is optional but it is the fastest way to submit your information to Medicare because your information would be immediately sent to the Coordination of Benefits contractor after you complete and submit the form electronically. However, you are also able to submit your form by phone.
The Initial Enrollment Questionnaire provides Medicare with information about any other health insurance coverage (veterans benefits, workers’ compensation benefits, or employer-based group coverage) you may have that offers payment for services before Medicare does.
You will not receive the Initial Enrollment Questionnaire in the mail. Three months before your coverage starts, Medicare will mail you a letter with instructions on how to log into MyMedicare.gov to complete the questionnaire. You should complete your IEQ within 180 days of the start date of your Medicare coverage.
If you prefer to submit your IEQ by phone, please call the Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center (BCRC) at 1-855-798-2627 (TTY users 1-855-797-2627), Monday to Friday, from 8AM to 8PM EST.
